SKYSNOW WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Sierra Nevada’s stunning sunsets together with the experience of running in the snow at night has made Snow Running “different from the rest” for the last 10 years.
Now, eleven years on and having organised 4 editions of the Spanish Snow Running Championships, we feel proud to be organising the first SkySnow World Championships at the Ski and Mountain Resort where it all started.

Sierra Nevada will be shown to the world next February 4 and 5 as an example of what a winter sports center in constant evolution and modernization should be, open to new mountain sports disciplines; because Sierra Nevada will host in early February the first Snow Running World Championships in history, thus culminating a journey of ten years of commitment to mountain races on snowy surfaces.
Sierra Nevada is not only one of the best resorts in Europe -which in recent seasons has made a huge investment effort to be sustainable and avant-garde-, but also shows its extraordinary versatility and sensitivity to all those sports disciplines that combine snow, effort and respect for the mountain.
This is the Snow Running, a discipline barely known a few years ago and that, in the heat of the boom of the mountain races, has found in Sierra Nevada its place of reference. From the hand of a group of professionals of the great mountain of Granada, grouped around the CD Altalí, and with the strong support of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, have managed to transform an event that started with just over fifty participants in a world championship.
Andalusia was considered in 2021 European Region of Sport, and this year and in the following years we will continue to be if private organizers, public companies and administrations follow the example of sports centers like Sierra Nevada, with its legacy of world championships in skiing, snowboarding and freestyle, is now aiming at this wonderful discipline.
Therefore, as president of the Junta de Andalucía, I want to welcome all athletes, technicians, mountain federations and sponsors that on February 4 and 5 will turn Sierra Nevada, Monachil, Granada and Andalusia in the epicenter of this spectacular and hard sport. To all of you, have fun, compete sportingly and respect the mountain.

As Mayor of Monachil, it is an honor that the I SkySnow ISF 2022 World Championships will be held in our municipality. It will be a unique event and I am sure it will be very special.
I want to greet all the participants and thank all the administrations, federations, clubs and people who have made it possible.
The ski resort of Sierra Nevada and our entire municipality is prepared for the organization of this event. A quality snow and the maximum possible slopes will delight all athletes.
We also count on the participants and visitors to know Monachil and its 3 population centers: urbanization of Pradollano, Casco Antiguo de Monachil and Barrio de Monachil. No one should leave our town without visiting amazing places such as the Cahorros or the archaeological site of Cerro de la Encina.
Besides enjoying our rich gastronomy with local seasonal products.
Monachil and Sierra Nevada continue betting on top level sport!

A decade ago, on a cloudy and cold evening, with almost no visibility, barely fifty runners barely reached the Pradollano finish line of the first -and probably the most difficult- edition of snowrunning in Sierra Nevada. Although at that time mountain races appeared strongly in the sports calendar, few could foresee that this same discipline could have a similar projection on snow. And it did, to the point that in a short time we already have here the first world championship and we have it in Sierra Nevada.
To organize a mountain race on a snowy surface, it is not only essential that a group of sports professionals, lovers and connoisseurs of the mountain, is put in charge of the event, but also that a ski resort is involved with its facilities and resources.
Cetursa Sierra Nevada has been with the snow running from the beginning, adapting the operation of the station to the needs of the event. So much so that the competition, which since the first edition has been held on Saturday night, is compatible with the activity of night skiing, sharing facilities (night lighting) and track (El Rio) where runners and skiers mix orderly and respectfully.
With the Snow Running World Championships, Sierra Nevada continues to trace a sports circuit of international competitions yet to be closed: alpine skiing, snowboarding, freestyle skiing … and now the world mountain running on snowy surfaces. Sierra Nevada remains open, receptive to sport in all those disciplines in which our mountain and our facilities allow it.
On behalf of Cetursa Sierra Nevada, I would like to welcome athletes from all over the world, judges, sponsors, federations and organizers of the first Snow Running World Championship. Good luck to everyone.

It is a pleasure, as President of the FEDME, to greet all the federated athletes participating in this wonderful event, especially the foreign athletes representing other countries affiliated to the International Federation, all are very welcome to Spain. This excellent organisation celebrates 10 years of brilliant trajectory in 2022 and on this occasion celebrates the dream of any organiser, to be the I World Snowrunning Championships of the International Federation ISF. Moreover, it takes place in a perfect setting, the opening of the celebrations of the centenary year of our Federation 1922 – 2022. A date and circumstances that could not be better for the Club Deportivo Altalí, organizer and unquestionable heart of the event with the help of the Federación Andaluza de Montañismo, the Junta de Andalucía, the Sierra Nevada Ski Resort and local sponsors that make this event possible. I would also like to thank the International Federation ISF for once again placing its trust in FEDME, with the organisation of this great international sporting event.
I hope that we can all enjoy during two days, 4th and 5th February 2022, the sporting events on snow, in such a privileged and beautiful environment as the Sierra Nevada mountains. I am sure that the routes, the people, the sunset light, the cold and the experience will make you remember this important date, the celebration of the I ISF Snowrunning World Championships 2022.

We’re really excited to put this new discipline on the international stage so fast. SkySnow perfectly embodies the history of this sport which was born running across snow fields and glaciers.”
“Edition zero” of the SkySnow World Championships will take place on February 4-5, 2022, in Andalusia at the Sierra Nevada Ski and Mountain Resort, Monachil, Granada, Spain.

On behalf of the Andalusian Mountaineering Federation (FAM, ‘Federación Andaluza de Montañismo’), it gives me great pleasure to welcome the hundreds of participants in the 11th Edition of the Andalusian Snowrunning Championship.
2022 is a year of commemoration, a year of sharing due to the celebration of the centenary of the Spanish Mountaineering Federation, now the Spanish Federation for Mountain and Climbing Sports (FEDME, ‘Federación Española de Deportes de Montaña y Escalada’). For Granada and Andalusia, it is an immense honour that the World SkySnow Championships are the gateway for such an important event.
It is no coincidence that it is here, in the Mountains of Sun and Snow, this international gathering came into existence. Our slopes, our snow, our magic sunsets, contemplated one decade ago the birth of one of the most gorgeous sport shows, where epic and achievement play together to create its appeal.
I would like to thank ISF, CSD (High Council of Sports), FEDME, Junta de Andalucía (Andalusian Government) and Monachil Townhall for their trust in the expertise and proficiency of Altali Sport Club and in the organizational experience of Mamut Sierra Nevada.
Enjoy the southern Mountains… savour the sunny Mountains.

We are passionate about helping people enjoy nature through sport, helping them at the same time to improve their quality of life.
We observed that many people ran in cold climates and being skiers, we designed and organised the very first Snow Running competition in the Sierra Nevada in 2012.
Now, eleven years on, we feel proud to be organising Snow Running’s first World Championships at the Ski and Mountain Resort where it all started, with the help of the Andalusian and Spanish Federations for Mountain Sports, the support of Monachil district council, the Andalusian Regional Government and all the companies who have made the last ten editions of Snow Running possible.
Without forgetting, of course, the participants who together with our organisation and volunteer team, are the heart and soul of this event that continues to be truly “different from the rest”.
